The Variety Bash episode in Season One of Resto My Ride is a fan ( and possibly ours… not that we play favourites around here ) favorite. We always get inundated with emails and messages asking us about the Bash. So, we figured it’s high time we shared the story of becoming a “Basher” and how Resto My Ride got involved with the legendary Variety Motoring Events and why we just can’t get enough of them.
How It All Started…
Picture this: A few years back now, our workshop was buzzing with the usual petrol-fueled chatter when some of our car-loving mates started raving about the Variety Bash. These guys were already seasoned veterans of the event, and their stories were infectious. Who doesn’t love the idea of cruising in a cool car with your car-loving buddies, all for a good cause? It didn’t take long before we were chomping at the bit to get involved.
Our adventure began with our first Bash car – a beloved HR Holden that rolled into the workshop, ready for its transformation. Let me tell you, getting that beauty “Bash Ready” was a blast! From the custom mods to the quirky decals, every part of the process was pure, unadulterated fun. You know we love a Resto, but this build was more off a fun build with not a lot to do body-wise to get the HR themed up and Bash ready. And, Variety was there every step of the way, providing us with all the support we needed. They even sent the head mechanic from the event to Resto HQ to make sure we had everything under control and to offer guidance and expertise. Talk about service!
Why We Got Hooked!
From the moment the HR rolled into the workshop, we were hooked. Its no secret that we love nothing more than transforming a car but the anticipation of actually hitting the road with a few hundred of our enthusiasts mates was real! There’s just no other event like the Variety Bash. It’s not just about the cars – although, let’s be honest, that’s a huge part of it. It’s the camaraderie, the adventure, and the cause that keeps us coming back. Since our first bash, we’ve built three different cars to participate, and it’s safe to say this has become a full-blown addiction.
Why do we continue to support Variety Motoring Events? Simple. The impact is real, and it’s powerful. Seeing the smiles on the faces of families and children who benefit from the funds raised is incredibly moving. Variety does phenomenal work right across this country for Aussie kids and their families, and being a part of that is something special. Plus, the adventure is second to none. We’ve explored parts of Australia we’d never seen before, from remote outback tracks to iconic tourist destinations. As they say, “You gotta do it!” And trust us, once you’ve done one, you’ll be hooked, too!
