Dave McIntyre the Head Beater

Dave’s from country Victoria and has always wanted to restore cars. He likes entering Ute shows and going to the Deni Ute Muster.

He never leaves home without his hat on and when he’s not on Facebook he loves catching up with his mates at the Torrumburry Pub!

What did you want to do when you were a kid?

I always wanted to be a panel beater and get into restoration. I started doing work experience when I was 15 and I started my apprenticeship when I was 17.

What’s your first car memory?

My step Dad use to always talk about his first car which was a EH Holden. I remember him showing me photos of his car. One day he actually found one and gave it to me when I was 14. I still own it and eventually want to restore it completely.

Who taught you to drive and in what.

I taught myself. I lived out in the country and we had 100 acres. I drove to and from farms, paddock bashing, go carts, quad bikes….you know, that kind of stuff. My first paddock basher was a Nissan Bluebird Wagon.

What car do you currently drive?

HSV Maloo and it’s had a bit of work done to it. 405 at the wheel, custom respray. I’ve entered the Ute Show in Torrumburry, Vic for the last couple of years. I came first in best custom and second over all on my birthday 2015. I came second the year before.

What was the last concert you went to & where.

Art V’s Science at 170 Russell Street Melbourne (which use to be called Billboards)

Ford or Holden?

Holden of course!! Definitely.

If you were driving from Melbourne to Darwin who would you have in the car with you (up to 4 people) and what would you be listening to?

I’ve actually done it. Hahaha. This time I’d take my best mate Zac, Just me and Zac. We’d be listening to Johnny Diesel and the Injectors!!

Where’s you’re favourite place to drive?

Back at home in the country. There’s a road called Headworks Road. It’s one of my favourites cos no ones ever on it. It’s nice and windy with long straights.

Where’s the best place to have a drink.

The Torrumburry Pub

What would be your dream car to restore.

My 1964 EH Holden. I’d love to get that done.

If money wasn’t an option I’d love to restore a 57 Corvette and a 57 Thunderbird

2 top cars in your dream collection

A fully restored 57 Corvette and 57 Thunderbird
